Forgive me if this has been brought up here and addressed
previously. I've just now subscribed, and didn't notice
anything in the archives after a cursory glance.
From my brief testing, and to my great frustration, it seems
that the output files from the tcpdump included in the latest
version of Nokia's IPSO OS, 3.3, are incompatible with
tcpdump-3.6.2 and Ethereal. Tcpdump (3.6.2, libpcap 0.6, Debian)
gives me the following:
"tcpdump: pcap_loop: bogus savefile header"
Running one of the output files through "file" shows:
tcpdump capture file (little-endian) - version 2.4 (Ethernet, capture length
2000)
Nokia has been, so far, unhelpful on this. The attitude of
their frontline people has been that they don't support the
use of their tcpdump output files on other platforms or tools.
But the fact is that it worked just fine back on 3.2.
I'm posting here on the chance that someone here has already
run into this, and/or someone is interested in correcting
this incompatibility. I can probobly provide a sample output
file if anyone is interested in disecting it.
