p1p1 is some weird redhat/Dell naming thing. I've seen it before for ethernet devices.
I believe line 555 should be: errx(1, "%s is not a valid Tcpreplay character device", device); That said, any chance you're running tcpreplay from /dev or something? I'm trying to figure out why line 549 is returning 0 (the call to stat()).
