Yes you can send on a SDN.  You just need an interface on the SDN
network to send traffic on.

Is it necessary to rewrite addresses?  Well that depends on many
things.  You haven't provided nearly enough info to say yes or no.

Where does traffic that doesn't match IP's on the network go?  That
depends on the SDN implementation.  It may end up being a broadcast or
nowhere.
