I didnt have to work today (Presidents Day) so I slept a little later. I usually get up at 4am so I can write this newsletter before I go to work. Today, since I didnt have to go to work, I slept until 8:00am. The newsletter is being sent out later today because of this. ======= The Recommend Books for Teachers page is up and running. The links work and many new books have been added to the list. Last week I was not aware that the links didnt work properly and since have corrected the problem. http://www.a0kteacherstuff.com ======= This weekend I found what I thought was a really good FREE ISP. It is one from Excite. It has local numbers to many places in the US. I downloaded it for a second Internet connection in case my other one is down or is busy. I love AOL but sometimes get a busy signal with them. At night it can be slow going from one screen to another. It occurred to me that the ones subscribed to this list might be having the same problem. I tried the free ISP and set my AOL up with a second connection (ISP/LAN connection) and was I surprised at the increase of speed in AOL with this connection. The address for the FREE ISP through Excite is http://www.bachsys.com/cgi-bin/freeisp.pl?siggy I plan to use this connection for my laptop when I am traveling since it has so many cities listed as local numbers. Over 70 percent of my newsletter group get their newsletter through AOL. I am including the steps on how to add a TCP/IP connection for those members. I was quite impressed with how much faster AOL was under the TCP/IP connection using an ISP as the dial up. Here are the steps to setting up a second connection on AOL as a TCP/IP connection. 1. Go to the sign on screen of AOL. 2. Click on Setup Choose Create a location to use with new access or phone number or an ISP Click on Next Name it Second Connection Click on option Add a custom connection (for example TCP/IP) Click on Next My screen said something about a modem connection. I just said OK 3. When you go to the log on screen, go to Select Location and choose Second Connection A screen will come up that says Add Numbers - Choose the second option on that page that says Go to a custom connection setup (expert or TCP/IP) Click Next Dont change anything on the Add number screen Click OK 4. Log on your free ISP, click on Internet Explorer or Netscape, and then log on to AOL using the second connection. Remember to send out a free Presidents Day card by Monday. I dont have to work on Monday so I plan to send them out to all of my friends that DO to work Although the online version of this newsletter is for easier access for members using AOL it is actually is much easier to read and to access the links than the email version http://www.a0kteacherstuff.com/ <a href="http://www.a0kteacherstuff.com/">Members using AOL can access this page online</a> ========== All these links and more can be found at Teacher Stuff - http://www.a0kteacherstuff.com ============ If you wish to subscribe to this newsletter click on the link listed below and choose the subscribe option. http://teacherstuff.listbot.com ====================================== If you miss an issue of this newsletter (since December 7, 1999) you may find it on Net-Happenings K-12 Newsletters at http://scout.cs.wisc.edu/caservices/k12-news/index.html ====================================== Good Thoughts for the Day Make the least of the worst and the most of the best. ====================================== The A0Kteacherstuff has had several new pages added. Has an option to join. By joining you can set up your address book and choose the cards you wish to send out and the date you want to send them. It would be a great idea to set down with your calendar and set up the cards to be sent out on the day you wish (or set up the reminder calendar) that way it you wont forget the special day for your loved ones and wont be in the doghouse because of it. It makes sense to me to join so you have more options. When you join you have the option of having email reminders sent to you.
