I am teaching a undergraduate/graduate seminar in Sociology of the
Media this fall and am considering having the students work together on
two or three large projects that would culminate in the creation of a
series of manuscripts or conference presentations for the students (and
myself). The course will have about 10 graduate students and less than
5 undergrads.

I was involved in a similar project as a graduate student and it took
two years after the course was over for the journal article to be
published. Only three students stayed involved after the course and
were listed as co-authors on the article.

I fear this is a logistical nightmare, but would like students to come
out of a course with more than just another research paper.

Has anyone on the list undertaken such a task? I welcome all advice,
cautionary tales, references, etc.
