Hi folks. Some information for high school sociology teachers: There is a new listserve for high
school teacher of sociology that you might find useful. You are certainly welcome on this TeachSoc listserve, but since much
of the conversation has to do with university level curriculum and other issues,
some high school educators feel there is a lot of “noise” that they
do not need. Thus, there was a
request for a national listserve for high school teachers. At the end of this message, you will
find instructions on how to enroll.
There are a half dozen or more college sociology instructors who will
also be also on this list to serve as resources in case high school teachers
want input from a professional sociologist—for clarification of concepts,
for example. These college professors are all members of the American
Sociological Association’s Section on Teaching and Learning. To join the list serve for high school teachers (called H.S.
TeachSoc Forum), follow the instructions below: Send an email to In the first line of the message area put: subscribe hssoc-l <your name> Please be
aware that today is the first day this listserve has
been available, so it may take a week or so before many people learn of it and

materials—lesson plans, mostly—put together for high school
sociology teachers by the Sociology Department at Appalachian State
University. Called The Creative Classroom, it is available in loose-leaf binder
