Please email me if you have questions.   Best, Jeanne   TENURE-TRACK DEPARTMENT CHAIR POSITION OPENING   RADFORD UNIVERSITY:  Tenure-track, Associate or Full Professor with Ph.D. in Sociology to assume duties of Chair of the Sociology and Anthropology Department.  Successful candidate will teach two courses per semester.  Specialty is open with preference given to one or more of the following specialty areas: Social Inequality (ethnic and racial, global and economic inequality); Classical & Contemporary Theory; Deviance, Criminology and Juvenile Delinquency.   The successful candidate will possess effective professional interpersonal communication skills, and be demonstrably committed to the mission of Radford University and the primacy of the professor-student relationship in the learning enterprise at RU. The candidate will possess the skills and commitment to continue the growth of the Sociology and Anthropology Department in a variety of ways. These include, but are not limited to: increasing the number of majors in each program; the use of applied and experiential learning activities; supporting faculty research and professional activities; preparing our majors for success after RU; providing curricular service to General Education and other departments; recruiting new faculty; and being available for both faculty and students. Previous experience as a department chair is helpful but not required.   Importantly, this experienced faculty member will be expected to: have an established and active record of research and professional participation; share in the effective advising of sociology and anthropology majors; work with the department and its two majors in continuing to expand the opportunities for applied and experiential learning opportunities, such as internships and research collaboration between faculty and students; and to both support and recognize the value of department faculty’s research and professional pursuits.     Applicants must provide a letter of application detailing their qualifications and reasons for seeking employment at RU, a current vita, and the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three references. The position is a tenure-track position with appointment at the assistant professor level (Sociology Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment required).   Due to retirements, we seek candidates with substantive specialty, expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Classical & Contemporary Sociological Theory; Deviance, Criminology and Juvenile Delinquency; Social Inequality, including global, racial & ethnic, and economic inequality; Sociology of the Community; and Environmental Sociology.
