I have been puzzling over Crash ever since I saw it, and trying to get others to see it as well to help me get some kind of grasp on it, so I'm enjoying this discussion very much. Could small but varied clips be used to launch a discussion about the social structure of racism? Just as we could look at a variety of suicide notes and get the idea that it's an individual-only phenomenon, then looking at data showing differences in rates by region and class/occupation gives another perspective. I like the idea of not using the entire film in class, for the excellent arguments already advanced, but parts of it might be worthwhile.
