Yes, I thought of using presidential debates to show mys students, but I don't really want to use George "W" as a model for a good debator. I did, however, catch the fictional debate between two Presidential candidates (one played by Alan Alda) on the show West Wing, that would be great. Are there videos of the West Wing that I can rent?

Hi Folks

You might want to find a video of a presidential debate, and have your students view it ahead of time to learn the proper format.

Karen,

I have had a lot of trouble too, but I figured that it was because I am teaching at a community college.  Where are you teaching?

I would love to see any tips that you get from colleagues on the listserv.

Thanks, Darlaine

Subject: TEACHSOC: debates

I've had my students debate social issues for the past few years in my Social Problems class, but many of them don't get the basic rudiments to debating even though I supply them with a detailed format. I'm beginning to think they need to see an actual debate. Can anyone recommend a video of a debate or something online? Thanks.
