I meant to send to the list yesterday but missed the "reply-all" button.
I've used "Greetings from Grozny," a segment from the PBS show Wide Angle. (See http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/shows/chechnya/ for some detail, though no "purchase" link I could find.) Things I like about this video, in no particular order: --the focus on a "foreign" conflict instead of 9/11 gives students a bit more critical distance --there are several interviews with university students in Grozny; they come off as not all that different from our students --there's a wee bit of the history involved so that students understand how the conflict developed --some excellent footage shows the nature of Russian counter-insurgency efforts, which --makes the blowback from those efforts very understandable --and an interesting discussion of how the traditionally tolerant Chechen version of Islam is being displaced by a more radical version Best, James ------ James Cassell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
