Dear Sandra, What a great idea - to give your students a sense of what well-done *undergraduate* research looks like by pointing them to papers that have won the annual AKD undergraduate paper competition. Also worth considering are published undergraduate research papers.
The Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association (AMSA) is launching an online journal that allocates some space to publishing stellar undergraduate research papers (see below for a short description from the AMSA website). The link to the journal is: http://www.olemiss.edu/pubs/amsa/ Perhaps within a few months examples of excellent undergraduate research papers will be published. Of course, this will also be a potential outlet for excellent papers by your students. Best wishes, Michael AMSA On-Line Sociological Review The AMSA journal, the AMSA On-Line Sociological Review, housed at the University of Mississippi, is ready to receive submissions. Edited by Gary L. Long ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), with assistance from Elise S. Lake, Minjoo Oh, Ming Tsui, and Gwen Wages, the journal has an editorial board, and an established protocol. The journal will publish peer reviewed papers, essays, and comments authored by both faculty and students. One of the purposes of this new journal is to encourage faculty-student collaboration at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. BY POLICY THE JOURNAL WILL GIVE SPACE TO PAPERS FROM UNDERGRADUATES. I know that Sociological Inquiry sometimes publishes these papers, but I have only been able to find two in my cursory search. Does anyone know where I might find a list of past recipients of this award? Or, if you personally know any past recipients of the award, would you be willing to post his/her name and paper title so that I might locate the published version? Many thanks. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Teaching Sociology" group.
