Carol Jenkins of Glendale Community College (Arizona) demonstrated a no-fail activity on stratification that included ranking folks who qualified for to receive a kidney - the final list had gave a short bio (age, gender, affiliation) of each on the waiting list - they had to try to determine who would get it (from the standpoint of the hospital administrator.  My computer crashed in Dec. and I do not have an electronic copy here at the office - you might e-mail Carol and request an electronic copy - I can try to find it on my home computer tonight.

I suggest you call a sociology text book representative and see about texts, such as the new Thio paperback text. I worked with high schoolers in alternative schools and I worked up a lesson on each typical chapter that adapted it to high school students.  I think you would benefit from pairing up with a community college sociology faculty mentor - preferrably locally - and sitting through intro courses during the summer.  While I know this may be more of a commitment of time that you wish - maybe pursuing a grant through ASA would benefit.

Good luck.
