his sounds like and opportunity to test the teacher/preacher model.  We used several methods. You may want to replicate an exercise we
did to test and explore the teacher/preacher images held by students. More than half of the respondents could not distinguish between teaching
(lecture) and preaching.  When asked to draw a picture as part of the exercise of a person preaching and a person lecturing (teaching)
The drawings were very similar.

I have heard that some sociologists consider both education and religion to be social control mechanisms.  On one exercise we gave names such a MLK Socrates, etc.
In one case MLK was considered a preacher and Christ a teacher.  We asked questions about the difference between a teacher and a preacher.  The content did not matter.
Place did not matter.  What did matter was size of group addressed.  That is a Pastor with a small group (bible study) was teaching.

As for social control there seemed to be less concern about church than school.  While both agreed that the chosen were advantaged..... e.g. the best predictor of
child success was parents education.... or Rosenthal and Jacobson's work Pygmalion In The Classroom. As well as Farber's work.

Hi everyone—

I always enjoy the excellent ideas that pass through here, and I’m wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for interactive, student-oriented activities that emphasize some of the concepts pertaining to religion and/or education?  I usually talk about them at the same time, but I want to get the students a little more involved.  I am grateful for all of your wonderful ideas.  Thank you!
