In a couple of weeks, a number of events of interest to our sociological community will open in Montréal. First, an International Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Human Rights conference will open as part of the Outgames 2006 - the latter attracting over 16,000 athletes from 120 countries, making it the largest sporting event in Montréal since the 1976 Olympics. The GLBT Human Rights Conference will be the largest such gathering in the world to date and will attract some 2000 participants from around the world and every continent. Shortly thereafter, by a happy coincidence, the American Sociological Association's annual meeting will open in Montréal at the same venue - the Palais de Congrès de Montréal. Clearly, Montréal is the place to be this summer ... comme toujours! I am a delegate to the Human Rights Conference, but not, alas, to the ASA's meeting. Professional development funds do have their limits ... Nevertheless, if there are some listmembers who are coming to Montréal to any/all of these events, and would like some advice or pointers on what to do in Montréal and where or how to do it, please feel free to send me an email off-list. I would be happy to be of whatever assistance I can ...
