Ginger and all,

I find the notion of "difficult subjects" very interesting with its many
possible meanings (and, thus, much that could be discussed in a workshop
on this topic!). Subjects could be difficult for students and for
faculty as Ginger notes but also difficult in different ways. Difficult
could be difficult as in academically challenging material or skills.
Related, perhaps, would be difficult as in difficult to convey or
explain or express. Difficult could be difficult as in emotionally
charged or controversial or embarrassing. And, of course, difficulty
could vary somewhat by student characteristics and institutional,
department or classroom context. I just found this notion very
interesting and wanted to comment. Should be a stimulating workshop.
