Hi Allen,

That is an interesting link. And, the price is certainly attractive. However,
I removed all incandescents from my house about 2 years ago and bought all
cfl's. I did that to reduce energy consumption and heat. I don't like the
negatives, the non dimmability, the slow warm up, and the mercury. I've read
somewhere that power plants put out more mercury up the smoke stack because of
excessive energy consumption than the cfl's will ever leak out. I'm not sure
whether that's true but I suspect it is. I'm really waiting for led's to
become more affordable. I like the two led's I own. I'm satisfied with the
color rendering of those. Projected life is great, nothing is toxic, they're
instant on, and they're dimmable. I'm OK with the color rendering of 2700K
cfl's, but the led's do a better job of mimicking incandescents.

I've studied alternate energy extensively. While I have questions about the
constitutionality of banning certain bulbs, I really do think it's best that
the country move on. A large power plant can burn a 3 mile train load of coal
per day, and puts lots of pollutants into the air. PS, I don't consider co2 a
pollutant. If we'd completely switch to bulbs as efficient as led's or cfl's,
we could stop burning 1/4 of that trainload of coal. That would help eliminate
things like so2 and acid rain, etc. So, it really is in everyone's best
interest to move to better technology. Unfortunately, we don't have a good
comparably affordable and comparably non toxic replacement yet. Maybe the new
laws will help spur that development though. I don't think you would have even
seen led's below $ 100 if not for the new laws.

Sincerely,

Ron

call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new email messages very quickly.)
