In NE IL at least, there are all sorts of construction zones with no one working because the operating engineers are on strike. Making peoples commute miserable is certainly no way to build support for your cause!!! With the economy such that it is, I'm sure there are 10 people willing to work from the same or less money for every striking worker!

Riding the brakes I'm doing 50, and the 45mph zone starts about 3/4 of the way down the hill. Most people are doing 65 by the time they hit the bottom of the hill.
