This happened on my print server when I bought a new 4015n and installed the
drivers. I also had a 2600n printer installed on the server and there was a
conflict with the ports. The fix was to change the 2600n port to a
"Standard TCP/IP" port and the 4015n port to an "HP TCP/IP Standard" port.
Once I did this, the spooler started working again.

Subject: [tech-geeks] print spool problem

Hi,

    I have a problem that is even more confounding than what the
Cardinals have with the Astros in Busch stadium. I have loaded a donated
computer (Gateway e machine, Pentium IV) that I loaded with Win Xp sp2,
AVG 9.0, SuperAntispyware, Novell Client 4.91 and I setup a HP 3600n and
tested it. All was fine. I installed Office 2007 Pro. No problem. When I
restarted the machine I started to get error messages the the print
spooler app was stopped. I cannot see the printer in the "Printer &
Faxes" also I cannot now add a printer. I have had the problem on only
one other computer- and it still does not have a printer. I have tried
the following....

    * installing sp3
    * going into Services to start the Print Spooler
    * downloading from Microsoft the fix and repair program. Ran this
      and it was not able to fix the problem.
    * tried to install a HP 2025n-stopped 3/4 through the install
    * uninstall the printers in the control panel.
    * crossed fingers
    * prayer

Many Thanks for any help!
