Geeks,

You are going to love this one! I got in 10 Inspiron 1750 laptops. I noticed on one that it would never shut down, whether I went to turn off or restart, it would hang on the "Windows is shutting down..." screen and I would have to manually hold the power button to turn it off. I started working on another laptop, and was doing some Windows updates, restarting after each one. On the 2nd or 3rd update, this laptop did the same thing, hanging on the "Windows is shutting down..." screen. I went online to get some tech support from Dell, and their answer was to reinstall the OS!! I tried to explain that I already had the systems the way I wanted them-programs, network settings, etc.-and I really did not want to reinstall the OS, and then reinstall everything else. Their answer was "Sorry, but that is the only way to fix this error." Are you kidding me??

First of all, that is a cop out answer. Second of all, has anyone had this shutdown problem and have a solution, short of reinstalling the OS? I did some research online, but have not found any answers that have helped.

Thanks.
