We're remodeling a large section of our building and as part of it we are abandoning a network closet. Unfortunately this will not be the first generation of abandoned cable that needs removed. The lesson I have learned... always remove abandoned cable when you abandon it. It's much easier and is code to do so. Well back to jiggling the cable to see if it's loose.
