I would think that problem to be more related to VLANs and subnets than virtualization, per se. I know that in vSphere, I typically have to make virtual switches to connect VMs to the VLANs and subnets they need to serve. I also know that in order to get PXE working, we've had to put IP helper statements into our VLANs to facilitate DHCP requests getting to our PXE services.
