I was able to contact the guy via e-mail who created Mass User/Homes
by HBware. They're out of New Zealand. It took a day for him to get
back with me. He sent me a trial license (which did everything I
needed it to do) and an invoice (which I requested). It's only $180.
Much more reasonable than some of the other options. EMU wanted $750,
and DSRAZOR wanted $1,326. The only odd thing, is that his invoice is
in Euros. So we have to convert and then mail a check.
From start (querying STI for my student data) to finish (running the
Mass User program to create users and their home directories based on
one of my Novell templates) it only took about 30 mins to create about
450 users. I like it because it allows you to set all of your
parameters, filters to include/exclude certain groups, and do a test
run. You then look at the log, within the GUI, to see what the
results would be. Once I was happy, ran it for real.
Thanks for everyone's responses.

Believe it or not I still have a copy of VCASEL still running and
it still creates users, home directories, even passwords and puts
them in groups etc. I was REAL surprised that it is working on an
XP box and with the new install of Novell 10! I just "made" 80
users in about an hour. (I have all my servers in one tree, so I
need to check the user names at the high school to make sure they
are not duplicates of user names at the grade school - etc.that
took most of the time.) I can import the info from a CSV file,
and if it is all right the import will make as many users as I
want as fast as the network & computer can read the file!
If you had VCASEL around it might be worth the time to dust off an
old machine and make users with it.
If not - well they stopped supporting and writing it (man) 8 or 10
years ago - so it would be tough to score a copy.
ONE NOTE - I did have problems with VCASEL not reading the
Context, Tree and server information correctly when I create users
on one of my servers. I use a program called DBFView that lets me
open and edit the VCASEL user database and add (copy) the
information into the table. As long as I am not editing passwords
this works great. (Passwords are encrypted.)

I know this has probably been asked before, but for those of
you running Novell servers, what tool are you using to mass
create your users/passwords/homedirectories?
