Verify that the Novell servers are in the MS DNS for the zone the machines
reside in. If DHCP is pushing out that each machine is a member of
school.local dns zone, make sure in school.local under MS DNS that there's a
static HOST entry for highschoolserver

Subject: [tech-geeks] Host Files - DNS

  We're running Novell, and have run into issues with workstations not finding
the Novell tree. A quick fix for us is to simply add the Novell server
information to the Host file on the locale machine. This Speeds up the login
process for us also. Here is an example of what I put in the host file.....
192.168.0.55  highschoolserver
Is there a way to do this same process via DNS/DHCP? Or a way to remotely
change a host file via a script or something? This does happen both on XP and
Windows 7, simply adding the ip and server name to the host file, fixes the
problem. Now.. I figure it's easier to do this on all machines, instead of
waiting for a machine to stop finding the tree.

We now have a mix of SUSE Linux and Netware servers, which seems to be causing
more of this problem.

We use MS for our DNS/DHCP. (2003 Servers)

Thanks
Chris
