Pam - it sounds like our interns might be in the same program!

In our case, these individuals are hired as "interns". They are in the final
stage of their degree program and need/desire real world experience in their
field. They are working under experienced social workers, gaining valuable
experience (similar to a student teaching experience). It is a win-win
situation - they get valuable experience and we get additional help for our
students for far less than a regular full-time social worker would cost. Some
have ended up coming to work for us full-time after they completed their
program.

I think I can explain why the social work intern wants to "do her
schoolwork" in the buildings.

I currently have a social work intern and they have 2 internet classes
on Friday mornings. We don't require the interns to work on Fridays
because of the classes. I am hoping that mine will choose to even if
that means having her chat for 2 hours in my building. If she chats
for 2 hours she can still perform 4 hours of direct contact. Allowing
her to "chat" means that she has a strong work ethic and doing her
college assignments during the evenings and weekends instead of on
Fridays after her classes.

My observation....
