I know we are all busy but I teach for 6.5 hours a day and the phone in my
classroom rings and it is a vendor calling me. I could put it to voice mail
but I have parents, teachers, staff, etc... calling me that I need to
respond to during the day. I've asked our office staff to filter those calls
but sometimes the vendor makes it appear, to our staff, that they are
someone that I really need to talk too.

This discussion comes up, every now and then, on Tech-geeks.

By and large, our members have been and are people of professional
integrity. "Geeks" who are working the job, particularly when it comes to
education.

There have been a couple of instances, several years back, where a member
showed more interest in capitalism or self interest than community interest,
and the members made their opinions clear quickly.

I would not want to rush to judgment over a cold call. (Not saying anyone
was, mind you.) And, I don't take offense at a cold call. My response is
usually the same as Bob mentioned. "Send it to me in an email. I want it in
writing." But, while I try to remain faithful to vendors who have proven
their value to my workplace and our organization, not looking at any cold
call information would have meant missing some very cool tools for my
schools.

Good news.

I am in sales, but my background is very much IT. My business (that AVG
purchased) and now AVG NC is very customer service focused.
If anyone ever needs help with a virus threat, I'm happy to hook you up with
a team member here in US support one off anytime.

You are one of the helpful ones as far as I'm concerned.

I hope that I'm not on the "dirty vendor" list. I do try to contribute
where I can.
