In the last two and a half years I have bought 11 desktop-type
computers, received ~100 desktop type computers via donation, bought 24
laptops, and bought 72 netbooks. We are not 1-1 but have found it less
expensive and much easier to buy "mobile cart netbooks" then to re-wire more
space for a stationary lab. We have our same stationary labs as before and
they are and will be replaced with desktop-type machines (most likely via
donations such as computersforlearning) but any expansion will be via
laptops and netbooks. We are integrating more and more "technology" and "lab
time" into our curriculum and the netbooks make that much easy. It will also
make for a much smoother transition to 1-1 when we get threre (next couple
years I'm sure.)

That said, I'd love to stand up some decent workstations for CAD and 3-D
drafting, but that hasn't happened yet either - we just use the P4 machines
we have available.

"I'm trying to teach myself to ask the same questions that you do during
your lectures so that I do not need you any more."

A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for
others.

"The computer revolution hasn't started yet. Don't be misled by the enormous
flow of money into bad defacto standards for unsophisticated buyers using
poor adaptations of incomplete ideas."
