While the cost, size and battery life make netbooks appealing, they should not be considered drop-in replacements for traditional desktops or laptops. Some things to note...
Most have reduced size keys (approx 85%) and the screen size is not the same ratio as a standard monitor or projector so there tends to be some stretch/distortion on the screen when using it with a projector (or the projector cuts off part of the screen). Also, the processors are very slow compared to most laptops/desktops - for basic office type applications and websurfing this is not a big deal, but could be an issue if multi-tasking and/or running processor intensive operations (like major spreadsheet recalculations). Personally I love my netbook but would never use it for my primary computer. For me it works best to take to meetings, to use while traveling, etc. in situations where I need a small footprint and long battery life (works great on a plane!!). -TS -----Original Message----- From: tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org [mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org] On Behalf Of James Podraza Sent: Saturday, September 04, 2010 8:22 AM To: Tech-Geeks Mailing List Subject: [tech-geeks] netbook recommendations Hi, Any recommendations or warnings about netbooks? We are looking into getting a few for staff use at professional development sessions and to hook up to a projector for presentations (PowerPoint, etc.). If they work with our Novell network and other software, we would be getting more as replacements when our mobile lab dies.
