Thought I would reply to this to share the result. I went into the
server, right clicked on the user and chose rename. I changed the name
and when I clicked ok it came up with a box to enter in their new name,
username and email. I changed them all and saved. Went to the users
laptop and had her log in using the new name. Her desktop was the same,
email worked, favs there, etc. Worked like a charm. Her actual profile
folder and home drive folder is still under the old username, but hey,
who cares!! Thanks a bunch Curtis. Whole like cleaner that the one I
did last year.

profilefolder

It should connect to the old profile. The registry stores the profile
folder location based on UID. So if I'm cmckay, user 1234, when I log
into a machine the registry stores that user 1234 goes to c:\documents
and settings\cmckay. If I change my name to twilson, I still am user
1234 so a new profile is not created and the registry should point me to
the folder that is now not the same name as my username, but who cares.

Subject: [tech-geeks] Changing the username - Windows local profile
folder

I have six teachers who got married this summer so now I have to change
their usernames. For the network, it is easy. For the local profile on
their laptop, not so easy. Does anyone have any tips on best practices
for doing this? If I just have them log in under their new name, it
will create a new profile and not have their email settings, favorites,
stuff they saved to their desktops, lose their iTunes library, their
Flipcam library, etc... I know I can go in and reset settings, copy
stuff over, etc., but is there a quicker way to get this done without
all the resetting of things?

     Thanks,
