While a detailed, written disaster recovery plan has been on my "to-do" list for quite a while, I do have what I refer to as a "drop dead" list that we review/update annually or more frequently as needed. This includes usernames/passwords for all systems as well as contact information for others who would have the expertise to help in the event I was unavailable. This is in a sealed envelope kept in a secure location accessible only by the superintendent, HR director and Finance director. Since I started this a few years ago, the practice has been expanded in the district and now is required of all personnel with exclusive access to systems.
Such a list can be put together rather quickly (less than 1/2 day in most cases). It should not be considered a replacement for a true disaster recovery plan, but is invaluable in the event of an emergency or crisis. This is something that all IT folks ought to do as a best practice. I have even done it for my personal systems at home (including all the various internet-based services I use). -TS -----Original Message----- From: tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org [mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org] On Behalf Of Heath Henderson Sent: Sunday, September 12, 2010 10:07 PM To: Tech-Geeks Mailing List Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] Admin Rights How many people keep their disaster recovery plan for he network on file with the district office?
