I'm using parted magic which seems like a live CD running gparted am I correct? 
How do I check version number?

Correct, I deleted the Dell made Boot utility partition and the
partition that contains the recovery image. I used the latest, again
the summer GPartd has a data destroying bug, latest is great. then I
expanded the OS partition to fill the extra space. Also I added an 8
gb FAT partition that staff may use to transfer data if on the domain
or off.
