Land-line phone service was disrupted for about three hours Thursday morning in eight counties in central and northwestern Illinois because of a hardware equipment failure. Frontier Communications spokeswoman Pat Amendola said the problem initially appeared to be a cut fiber optic line, but further investigation revealed the hardware failure in the company's McLean central office. Toll and long distance calls were affected. Local calls could be made. Repairs were completed about noon. Amendola did not have the names of the affected counties, but problems in Tazewell, Woodford, Logan and McLean counties were reported to media outlets. Mike Dunlap Customer advocate 3105 N. We can't call anywhere in town from our cell phones and vice versa. Anything we have to dial an area code for fails, and for our town that's just about everywhere.
