HP offers free support to servers in warranty. Is the PSP installed? That's the proliant support pack. Then there is a firmware CD that you download and burn. Then boot from it. You may want to open a case and describe your problem and what hardware you have. Then get firmware update recommendations from them. Even the hard drives get firmware updates. You should have a backup that you can rebuild from. I've never lost anything but it's just a good idea to be prepared.

We buy all of our servers from Dell (although I'm starting to question why we exhibit such loyalty). Be that as it may, I know how to update Dell drivers and firmware on servers across our enterprise. Does anyone have any quick leads (eg, the tool name) for how one goes about this with HP servers? We're having some elusive HP performance issues with our Exchange 2007 server and since I've never updated firmware or drivers on this guy for the last 1.5 years, I thought it would be a good thing to do, just on general principle.
