Use windirstat it is far and away the best way to see what is taking up space 
in any OS.  It even creates a graphical map to the content.  I have used this 
on many servers/workstations etc.

If you want to find large files on a PC, just search for files larger than 5Mb. 
 Make sure to search for hidden files in hidden folders (advanced search).  
This can be done using no additional software.
Now, for the big question…..how can you do the same thing on a MAC?
