Oh yes, of course - that never occurred to me, so do I - and that's
going to mean that a copy of the entropy file can't be created there
(on the root version of /var where /var/db doesn't even exist) when
the system is shutting down.

I may have seen that too, I just didn't find the first one in the
messages file after the most recent boot - but I suspect it might
have happened other times. I doubt that the number of occurrences is
important.
