Yes, the redirect is nothing special - that just falls out of the implementation, it is simply "whatever stderr is now" (however it got there) and that stays. The code would need to change (using a different mechanism - the set command has no idea how ste* got to be in their current state - no more than any external command does) to retain the old behaviour (or to select the new, like a new option.) kre
