I have another idea for Freenet.

Say I run a permanent node on my cheap slow bandwith Cable modem, and I
want to host a freesite. The way it works now, I have to use freeweb to
submit my site every day, even the static parts. And I won't have any
guarante that it will remain on freenet, because more popular content may
push it out.

What I want is to use shared files on my permanent node. My node would
have a "FreenetPub" directory where I could store my website / mp3 files.
The node would calculate CHK checksums on all my files, and insert the
keys into the datastore with a reference to the files on the disk. If
someone requests one of my files, my node would read the file into the
datastore and serve it from there.

This way I an always guaranteed that the files I share will be available
on freenet, as long as someone can reach my node. (Using large htls). If
someone else is sharing the exact same file, they would have the same CHK
key so they would both mirror the same data for the same key.

Does this sound like a nifty feature??
