Tracy on Dell servers:
() The RAID card management tools leave MUCH to be desired as well. As far as I
() can tell, the MegaCli package is the way to manage the PERC from the command
() line in Linux. To work with it you have to hunt down the
() MegaCli-1.01.39-0.i386.rpm tools since the tools are proprietary to LSI and
() don't ship with RHEL.

I'll sign all you wrote on the Megaraid controllers but the same
ones come onboard in the otherwise nice SuperMicro 1026T-6RF+
servers so it's more a gripe on Megaraid than on Dell.

Let me add the complaint that they don't do JBOD mode but just
RAID-0. The consequence is that you can make a virtual disk
out of each physical one but the OS can't get at the physical
disks themselves. Luckily recent smartd versions can extract
SMART info anyway (smartd.conf: /dev/sda -d megaraid,9 -a ).

    Ciao, Lobo
