Perfect!  The -o mynetworks is what I was missing.  This is not open 
outside the firewall or to our public internal networks (just to our 
public private network) so the only thing I am concerned about is some 
of my wonderful students causing problems.  I am logging all access to 
the port I use with ufw to keep an eye on this.
