To add to this-- the only, ONLY lto3 cartridge/tape I had issues with was logging really funky errors. Turns out the tape had been dropped, the internal mechanism was "partially" jamming as the tape was in motion causing it fits.
Apart from that one incident, I've had incredible reliability from my lto tapes.
