That should rule out any file ACLs, LDAP problems, or system configuration.
So it must be something with his login environment, something specific
to the way gnome-terminal initializes his environment?
Does he have the same problem with other terminal apps? xterm? SSH?
Other shells? sh,csh,bash,etc.?
It is possible to specify how many results and LDAP search will return
("ldapsearch -z" or "sizelimit" in ldap.conf), maybe his environment
is somehow changing those values?
