My company is looking for a good, centralized user and group
management system for a heterogenous (Linux, Windows 7, OpenSolaris)
environment. We're leaning towards Active Directory and we currently
have OpenLDAP deployed with Samba, but here are some of the other
options we're considering:

FreeIPA
ClearOS
Apache Directory Server

Our primary concern is the large number of Windows 7 clients that
would all need registry hacks to connect to a Samba domain. OpenLDAP
and Samba have been difficult to manage with upgrades breaking parts
of the system and with Windows 7 clients need retooling to connect.

I am wondering if anyone can provide details regarding their
experience when faced with this problem.
