Folks,

I was in a meeting yesterday, taking notes on a pad of paper, while my compatriot was typing notes into an email message, commenting that he'd yet to find a good tool for the simple task of taking notes. Later that day, while building a new machine, I realized how much I record in spiral bound notebooks, and simple word files. Heck, ship logs, meeting minutes, are still more often kept in paper notebooks than any other form.

Which leads me to ask: Are there tools that people find particularly useful for keeping notes when working on systems?. Are there any good software equivalents for the traditional logbook, tied to a machine or rack?
