We still use the Likewise ™ Suite of products-- still running an older version 5… anyway, much like Matt, I’d like to echo “it just works”.
There are some important notes: We started with Likewise Open-- which yes, was FREE. But if you wanted to include the ability to do UID/GID mapping, you also needed the “uid/gid module” – which is a commercial ($$) product. Not super expensive. And.. it WORKS. With the acquisition by BeyondTrust, and also some licensing tweak/changes Likewise was doing anyway--- they got rid of their “uid/gid” module (which was a sort of “in the middle” product offering… somewhere between the free Open, and the full commercial product). If you want/need uid/gid mapping, you now need their full product. That said, their .edu pricing isn’t bad. If you’re doing *nuix/AD auth-- I recommend you at least try their free product. -kcb
