I ended up using siege for a recent test I was doing[1] after trying out
httperf and ab. There seemed to be a bunch of "okay" tools in this area
rather than one or two "good" tools.
Also take a look at autobench. It's a wrapper around httperf to run tests at
different volumes (and graph the results)
