This is a key question. The short answer is "I don't know". We have many over engineered systems here. I know we don't need the Ferrari type systems that we currently have. Not sure what "good enough" looks like though. Yes, I was aware of black blaze and have been tempted to try it out. Looks like it is designed for large, slow storage though. No, we have not looked at isilon. Will add that to our list. We are looking at Dell's Compellent line. Napp-it and openfiler look interesting. I may have to build one of those for home use ;) They are the sort of products I was thinking about using with JBOD's. The big question is if they will be fast enough for Dev/QA.
