That doesn't mean the patch doesn't work --- you applied it manually and it worked --- it means that Apple's normal load-balancing of Software Update (whether it's deliberate or an artifact of propagation over a CDN, I couldn't tell you) is still in effect, so your machine can't see the update in SU.
