Unfortunately, very true. I do see it used some, and where I can, I try and show people how to get much more out of it so they don't feel the need to convert to another language like ruby or whatever the popular language du jour is. It saves the client money, so they are happy.
Many of the features I show them are now in bash as well, but not known because bash has such a rep of never script in it to many, so they never bother to learn the more advanced features.
