For ad hoc sysadmin commands, I use shmux (I have a tiny script that
hooks it into our host lists/groups to make it easy to run commands on
bunches of machines). For things that are more batch-type jobs, I use
GridEngine.

The Fedora guys have a thing called 'func' which seems quite promising
