Hmmm...  A network fileserver doesn't really do the trick.  

The value add of something like dropbox ... The whole point of syncing files 
across laptops etc is that the files are still available offline etc.  Also it 
would be unwise to expose CIFS/NFS/etc to the internet.  Also this doesn't give 
you the ability to email somebody a http:// link to prevent attaching huge 
files to emails...
