Oops... I am just compiling a list still and heard that nginx did TCP level load balancing. I will take that off my list.

We are looking at doing software load balancing in front of our ldap infrastructure. Is there anyone that has suggestions on software to look at? We are currently looking at octopus and nginx.

LDAP != HTTP

I don't think that HTTP servers (e.g., apache, nginx) software load balancers are going to help you here.

We use hardware load balancers (Netscalers) in front of our LDAP servers, but if you want a software solution, I'd suggest looking at the built-in caching/proxy features of OpenLDAP which can be used to load-balance the back-end traffic to your servers.
